If you are a Mac user, you can run Splitweet as an application using Fluid.app. It won't take you more than 2 minutes to configure it, and you'll always have your tweets at hand. With Fluid you can have any website configured as an independent application.

To make it work you only need to download Fluid.app, run it and fill the form as shown in the picture:

If you use a different language other than english, put the subdomain in the address for a quicker access. For instance, http://es.splitweet.com if you want Splitweet in Spanish. You can use our ninja as the icon to make it look better (Save this image in your desktop):

If you are a Windows user or Linux user:

There are 2 options: You can do the same using Chrome (win only), but I haven't tested it yet. As a second option, a Splitweet user, Soroush, has reported that Mozilla Prism is doing the same, you can read that in his blog. Download and share your experience to others!

Here I leave some quick tips that might help you increase your experience with Splitweet. We don't have a manual detailing every aspect of the application (who would read it!) but a quick post has the same effect, here it goes:

Hide your twitter accounts

If you click on the "What are you doing" header you'll hide your accounts selectors, so you have more space for reading. It will remain closed until you click on a button that involves writing or you click the header again.

Change the preferences by default

You can set some preferences in the "profile" link that you might find useful. E.g: Opening links in new tabs, show Twitter user/full names... have a look. What there is by default it might not be the best choice for your needs.

Read only interesting Tweets

Show to yourself only what you CAN read. Hide your corporative accounts and add their names in the brands' mentions: you'll stay tuned on what's going on without having to read all the updates these accounts are generating... You can always re-add a hidden account by clicking on the link and read from time to time these accounts.

In my case: Despite I have several accounts I only read 3 of them on a daily basis, it is impossible to me to read all the people I follow through splitweet or other big accounts, but I am well aware of what happens through the brands' mentions. Here's a sample:

You don't need a desktop client

Ok, maybe yo do :P but by using Splitweet your Twitter Quota is never reached, because we do the request for you and we don't have any limit (but you do from your machine). Splitweet will look for new tweets and warn you in each account every 90 seconds, and that costs you nothing. Using TwitterFox for instance you can receive updates every 3 minutes the sooner. I have Splitweet opened in a tab all day long, and it really works for me :)

Yesterday we published our last update, including the new 'retweet' icon. This icon allows you to quote other people tweets, without having to write their @name and copy/paste the content of the tweet.

It has been a long awaited feature, asked for many of our users due to the increasing popularity of the 'retweet' practice.

At this moment it isn't supported natively by Twitter, so it doesn't exist an standard way of retweeting (like the @name for replies for instance). Most of people use the 'RT' or 'Retweet' convention, and in fact our first intention was to use 'RT' too, but then we heard about some alternatives that sounded interesting: the use of one single Unicode symbol to identify the retweets. Since we're using a communication system with one main limitation -140 characters-, it seems that makes sense to try to find the shorter way for all this stuff.

Following these recommendations we implemented the Unicode symbol for recycle: ?. It represents perfectly what retweet means and is only 1-char long. The problem: it doesn't work under some circumstances: Windows or iPhone, for instance. :-(

So... we have to find an alternative and need your help to choose the better one. Would you help us? We start: our vote is for » , other Unicode symbol, visible for major part of OSs.

Hace poco más de una semana que lanzamos Splitweet, y aunque están siendo unos días MUY intensos, con contínuos ajustes, mejoras y nuevos idiomas, no queríamos dejar pasar la ocasión de agradecer a todos la acogida masiva que ha tenido el servicio y los comentarios y sugerencias que nos habéis hecho llegar a través de emails, comentarios y artículos, tweets... Se han publicado más de 3000 artículos en blogs y centenares de tweets. ¡Increíble! Y es que no esperábamos algo así. Al fin y al cabo, todo empezó como un experimento.

A principios del mes de noviembre decidimos, junto con dos amigos compañeros de trabajo, desarrollar una herramienta que nos permitiera ahorrar tiempo al gestionar nuestras múltiples cuentas de Twitter y nos permitiera hacer seguimiento de las personas que hablaban sobre nuestros proyectos o sobre determinados temas: tras repasar muchos clientes de Twitter disponibles, ninguno de ellos reunía las funcionalidades que necesitábamos, o no las implementaban de forma que fueran cómodas de utilizar dentro de un interfaz único.

Bajo esa premisa, estuvimos un par de semanas revisando decenas de clientes web, de escritorio y móviles, pensando en nombres, en cómo daríamos a conocer el servicio... y concluímos que podría ser divertido plantearnos el desarrollo de Splitweet como un reto: debíamos conseguir diseñar y desarrollar la aplicación en menos de una semana. Y pensamos que la mejor manera de forzarnos a conseguirlo era anunciar públicamente una fecha de lanzamiento... ¡antes siquiera de ponernos manos a la obra!

Recién estrenamos una nueva funcionalidad en Splitweet que seguro resultará interesante a aquellos que trabajéis con múltiples cuentas de Twitter: el cálculo dinámico de la audiencia potencial de vuestros mensajes.

A medida que seleccionéis las cuentas de Twitter a las que enviaréis vuestro próximo tweet, un pequeño mensaje bajo el cuadro de texto os irá informando del número de personas aproximado que lo recibirán, de forma que fácilmente podréis haceros una idea del volumen de difusión.

De momento este cálculo se realiza en base a una aproximación extraída a partir del número de followers total de las cuentas seleccionadas, pero estamos trabajando para tratar de "sortear" las limitaciones de la API de Twitter en este sentido.

Apenas medio día después del lanzamiento de Splitweet, el nuevo gestor de múltiples cuentas de Twitter, anunciábamos en nuestro blog que ya estaba disponible la versión en catalán. Ahora, cuando aún no han pasado ni 5 horas del anuncio, tenemos otra buena notícia que dar a todos los usuarios hispanoparlantes: Splitweet ya está disponible en español.

Como anunciara Twitter hace unos meses, España es el tercer país del mundo más activo en el uso de esta herramienta de microblogging, sólo superado por los Estados Unidos, que reúnen el 60% del tráfico total, y Japón. Con estos datos en la mano, queda claro que la masa potencial de usuarios a los que podemos llegar con esta nueva versión localizada es bastante importante.

En los últimos meses, además, no dejamos de ver notícias y movimientos que indican que, cada vez más, las empresas se están dando cuenta del potencial de herramientas de microblogging como Twitter para conversar con los consumidores y usuarios, y para hacer seguimiento de "qué se dice" de sus marcas, y precísamente eso es lo que vamos a tratar de conseguir con nuestra herramienta. ¿Eres un usuario intensivo de Twitter?
